
Call for Submissions
Submissions Criteria
Notice: Vagabond has extended its submission deadline to April 20. Please submit original translations, poetry, prose, criticism, visual arts, personal essays or other works of creativity for publication.
Submissions must be made complete through this Google form. Emailed submissions will not be considered. Please ensure your work can be made available via a Google drive link or Microsoft Word upload. All submissions will be read on a rolling basis by our editorial staff during our semesterly reading periods.
Please note that as of 2023 we no longer mandate that submissions be relevant to multilingualism and/or multiculturalism. We welcome creative interpretations of our magazine’s mission statement. We will not accept hate speech, plagiarism, discriminatory rhetoric, and/or work that violates the UC Berkeley Code of Conduct.

General Requirements
- Title
- Works must be translated to English.
- Submissions must not have been previously published. If your piece is published at another magazine, we are happy to retract your piece from our submission pool.
Original Prose/Poetry
Submissions will be capped at
- 3 poems
- 2 short essay/prose pieces
- 2 non-fiction essays/memoirs
Playwriting/Screenwriting
Submissions will be capped at
- 2 pieces
Translation
Submissions will be capped at
- 2 translations
For translated works, please include a brief 200 word artist statement (explanation of methodology/statement of purpose). Please properly cite source material (Chicago style). You may include translations side by side for stylistic purposes. We would appreciate inclusion of translation methodology in your artist statement.
Art/Film Criticism
Submissions will be capped at
- 2 submissions
Please consider submitting longer pieces (more than 10 pages) of art criticism to the Comparative Literature Undergraduate Journal.
Visual Art
Submissions will be capped at
- 5 pieces
Visual art can include photography, mixed media art, comics, and/or anything in between. Please ensure your visual art is high resolution and titled.
